What Is A Detox Diet?

To detox is to cleanse and remove. During detoxification of the body, harmful chemicals and toxins are eliminated from the body via the urine or stools. Many people choose to detoxify their body by going on a detox diet.

A popular way to get healthy today, the detox diet is a way that many people use both to lose weight and to make sure they stay free from diseases.

A detox diet usually focuses on foods that give the body nutrients, minerals, and antioxidants that it needs to cleanse itself. The foods in a detox diet usually have a lot of fiber and water in them.  These components allow the detox foods to increase the number of bowel movements and frequency of urination in a person.

Some of the things detox diets might include are nuts, dried fruits, and other high fiber foods. Some detox diets may focus on raw foods such as vegetables and fish. Nuts are usually apart of a detox diet because they are abundant in vitamins B and E. They also have a lot of the antioxidant selenium in them. Fish gives the body omega 3 oils and protein, essential nutrients the body needs to stay healthy.

Usually, after being on a detox diet for a few days, people feel they have more energy, improved cognitive functioning, and an increased feeling of both well-being and health.

It’s obvious to see all of the benefits of going on a detox diet, but still many people reframe from going on one. What puts people off about detox diets are the restrictions involved. Many people falsely believe that all they can do is munch on celery all day and drink some water.

However, that could not be further from the truth. People wanting to go on a detox diet can select from of an array of vegan cookbooks to get ideas for ways to make healthy, detoxifying dishes.

Still, while detox diets are not as limited as some may think, people usually have to eliminate both processed foods and alcohol from their diet.

In spite of all of the possible benefits of going on a detox diet, there is some controversy surrounding it. For instance, many people believe that a lot of the detox diets and supplements are not beneficial for the body. Some experts also believe detox diets and supplements have not gone through the proper testing procedures.

Furthermore, sporadic changes to ones diet have been connected to fainting and other medical issues. And since most detox diets only make it so that a person increases their intake of fruits, vegetables and other nutrients, it is difficult to determine whether the increased health and sense of well-being are the result of the diet or just an increase in nutrients.

However, a detox diet is a good thing to try for those who have experienced failing when trying to stick with other types of diets. People wanting to try this type of diet have many resources available to them via the internet and library.
