Gout Diets for Natural Relief

A good gout diet is not difficult, nor is it expensive to follow. Most of it is, in fact, plain good common sense nutrition. What do you need to include in or subtract from your diet in order to make the changes that are going to make such a difference in your health?
• Water will help you to get relief from gout faster than almost anything else you can swallow. It washes the build of uric acid out of your body, so the more water you drink, the quicker you can be pain-free. Aim for ten to twelve 8 ounce glasses of water each day, spread out around the clock.
• Ban alcohol from your diet if you want to be free from the pain of gout. Surprisingly, beer is worse than whiskey for gout. Not only does alcohol make the level of uric acid in your body rise to a shocking percentage, it also keeps the body from getting rid of it as it was meant to do.
• Meat, particularly beef, pork, and lamb plus some kinds of seafood such as herring and anchovies, seems to predispose those people who have been happily consuming a lot of it to gout. Studies have proven that big meat-eaters have a fifty percent higher chance to develop gout. If someone who already has the disease continues to eat read meat after being diagnosed, their flare ups will be often. A good gout diet does not include red meat or certain seafoods.
• Ditch the sweets and eat more wholesome foods such as fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. Cut back on saturated fats and junk food. This is the only body you will ever have, and you are what you eat, you know!
• Eat more chicken. Chicken is a good source of protein that does not cause the body to produce excess uric acid.
• Add in more low fat dairy foods. A scientific study has shown that those gout patients who, on the average, eat two servings each day of low fat dairy products seem to have much less of a problem with flare ups from their gout.
• Take fish oil supplements even if you are eating some of the safe seafoods like tuna and salmon. The reason for this is that fish oils not only help with pain relief, but can improve the health of your aching and swollen joints.
• Lose weight if you need to, but do it the right way. Don’t try to starve yourself. Dieting too fast can cause uric acid levels to rise quickly. Aim to lose one or two pounds a week.
