Cures for Gout and Relief

Would you like to have a natural remedy that would give you relief from the painful gout you are experiencing instead of prescription medication that is not only expensive, but can be toxic to your liver?

There are several different things that are said to be good for treating and curing gout. Most are geared toward either lowering the uric acid levels in the body or helping to relieve the intense pains that are common in the joints of those who suffer from this disease.

• Cherries are one of the first items in the natural line of defense against gout. Many people have reported that the use of cherries has both relived the pain from AND cured their gout! They stress that you must continue to consume cherries in one form or another each day once you have your flare under control. This can be anywhere from 10 to 15 fresh cherries a day all the way up to around 8 ounces of the fruit.

• The cherries do not have to be fresh – they can be canned or dried, sweet or sour cherries. An all natural cherry juice has been found to be helpful. There is also a cherry juice concentrate that people who have been diagnosed with gout have been experimenting with. They report that as little as one Tablespoon of this concentrate taken each day has helped their gout tremendously.

• Leeks are a root vegetable that are related to onions. They look a lot like an onion, but their taste is not as strong.  They are delicious to eat, and it has been found that including leeks in your diet can help to remove uric acid from the blood. Many gout patients have used raw leeks to make a poultice which is then applied to the swollen, aching joints. They swear by these poultices as a natural cure for gout.

• Another type of poultice that deserves a mention is a charcoal poultice. Charcoal has been used for poison and toxin removal for people and animals for a long time, so it stands to reason that it could work to draw out the toxins that cause gout. To make a charcoal poultice, use around a half cup of activated powdered charcoal mixed with one fourth cup of flaxseed meal. The flaxseed helps to give “body” to the charcoal. Add a little warm water, just enough to allow you to stir the mixture into a paste. Apply this paste to any joints that are affected by gout and cover the area with plastic wrap to avoid stains. Change the poultice every four hours when awake. You can also leave this on while you sleep.

• Charcoal can be used as a cure for gout in other ways. You can make a charcoal soak for gout in your foot and ankle by making a paste of powdered activated charcoal and water. Add this mixture to a container of water large enough for your foot. Place water in the container, enough to cover your foot, and soak for half an hour to a full hour for relief from pain and swelling.  Charcoal is known to reduce uric acid, so taking it by mouth as well as using it on the outside of the body makes perfect sense. Naturopaths suggest taking a teaspoon of powdered activated charcoal four times a day for best results.

These are just a few of the natural gout cures that are available to relieve the pain and swelling of this disease.
