Gluten intolerance, also known a Celiac Disease, affects a large portion of the population of the Unites States. It can affect anyone although certain ethnicities are more prone to develop the disease. There are risk factors that greatly increase a person’s likelihood of getting the disease and there are other disorders that may cause or be caused from gluten intolerance. Celiac disease affects the small intestine and impairs the way nutrients are absorbed into the body. Although it is not curable, it is treatable by restricting the diet and sometimes trough medication. Vitamin supplements are also frequently needed because of the loss of nutrients.
