Symptoms of a Male Yeast Infection
Everyone has heard of yeast infections. We have all seen the advertisements on television about yeast infection treatments for women. The question is, can a male get a yeast infection? If so, what symptoms will a male with a yeast infection experience?
Despite the stigma attached to yeast infections, candida is not limited just to women. Babies get yeast infections. Women can suffer from vaginal yeast infections. And, yes, men can have yeast infections, too.
Yeast infections are becoming more prevalent in today’s society. Men are plagued by yeast infections just like women. No single person regardless of gender is free from the risk of a yeast infection. A male is typically embarrassed by the fact that he has a yeast infection. For this reason, a male is less likely to seek treatment for his yeast infection.
Oral medications such as corti-steroids, antibiotics, and acne medications are related to the onset of systemic yeast infections. About 80 to 90% of people suffer from a systemic yeast infection. This number is not simply including women. Males are also affected by yeast infections. According to such data, many men have a yeast infection and are unaware of it.
Would you know if you had a yeast infection? Unlike the traditional symptoms of women with yeast infections, a systemic yeast infection in a male presents in a different way. Symptoms of a systemic yeast infection in males include incapacitating fatigue, thrush on the penis, trouble concentrating, short-term memory trouble, painful muscles or joints, and acid reflux. Brown mucus in the back of the throat can also indicate a systemic yeast infection in a male. Blood blisters or other white blisters on the throat may also indicate this condition. A sore throat and white coated tongue is another symptom of a yeast infection.
Men with a yeast infection may experience a sensation of crawling skin. For this reason, they may not want to be touched.
Chronic sinusitis and headaches are common symptoms for a male dealing with a yeast infection. If you frequently do not experience a headache and suddenly begin experiencing migraines, you may want to consider the threat of a yeast infection.
Eye problems have been associated with a male yeast infection. Symptoms include blurred vision, eye pain, and sensitivity to light. Of course, these symptoms can be indicative of other medical conditions, but if they are seen with other symptoms of a yeast Infection, you may want to consult your doctor.
Even personality changes can result from a yeast infection. Anxiety, depression, and panic attacks may result. These aren’t the symptoms you expect for females, but this is exactly what to expect for males with yeast infections.
Not only can men get yeast infections, but a systemic yeast infection can be serious. A male who allows a yeast infection to go untreated, can really be in for some serious symptoms. If you suspect you have a systemic male yeast infection, consult your doctor to schedule an appointment for a proper diagnosis. He or she can advise you on an appropriate method of treatment for your male yeast infection.
