Sugar diabetes occurs when the pancreas fail to produce enough insulin in your body. This in turn, creates loss of energy because insulin is used to generate energy to keep you going each day. This happens when sugar build up occurs in the bloodstream instead of being distributed throughout.
If not taken care of or diagnosed, sugar diabetes can cause you to have problems with your eyes, heart, feet and kidneys. Some of the signs of sugar diabetes are:
• Frequent urination • Blurred vision • Losing weight without really trying • Excessive hunger • Slow healing sores • Constant fatigue or tiredness
If you notice any of these happening to you, see your physician as soon as you can. The sooner you get checked out, the sooner you can take care of this if you’re diagnosed as a diabetic.
When you have diabetes, you should work to stay within the normal blood sugar levels, which is 70 – 120 mg. Anything outside of that could spell trouble for you.
Studies show that you are more likely to get sugar diabetes if you fall under one of the following categories:
• You have a relative (usually immediate) that has diabetes • You are overweight or obese • You have a sedentary life and don’t exercise • You are of African-American, Hispanic/Latino, Native American, Pacific Islander or Asian heritage
There are more, but these are some of the main factors that contribute to having this disease.
There are two main types of sugar diabetes. Type 1 is when you can’t produce any insulin; Type 2 is when you can produce some insulin, but not enough for your body. There is also gestational diabetes, which happens to women during pregnancy.
What can you do to control your sugar diabetes? Well, for starters, you can look at the foods you eat. If you’re eating foods that have a lot of saturated fats, sugars and sodium, you should put those by the wayside. You have to start eating more fresh vegetables and fruits. These give you the vitamins and nutrients you need to keep you going. Try some apples, berries and green leafy vegetables.
You should also consume more fiber in your system. Fiber is good for you because it cleans you out and removes bad toxins from your body. Some good choices include whole wheat and whole grain products, oatmeal, lima beans and lentil beans. These are all good choices because they keep your body regulated.
If you are overweight or obese, you need to work on getting rid of that excess weight. Being overweight or obese is one of the reasons you can get diabetes. This is a dangerous state to be in. It’s bad enough that you have the excess weight, but when you add diabetes in the mix, it can be a bad combination, like oil and water.
