Vaginal Thrush Symptoms
You have heard of thrush. It is that condition where little babies get those milky, white blotches or spots inside their mouth and on their tongue. You don’t even have a baby in the house, so how do you know where you may have contracted vaginal thrush? Do you have vaginal thrush? What are the symptoms of vaginal thrush?
Vaginal thrush is another way of saying a vaginal yeast infection. You are correct about a baby with white spots having oral thrush, but that is not how a woman gets vaginal thrush.
Vaginal thrush is caused by candida. Yeast normally lives in a woman’s vagina, but sometimes, a woman’s natural balance becomes out of whack. When candida is allowed to flourish and grow out of control, vaginal thrush results.
Symptoms of vaginal thrush can be mild or severe. The most common complaint among women who have had vaginal thrush is the severe itching they experienced. The vagina and vulva itch like crazy. You may even find yourself scratching that area without realizing it.
Another uncomfortable symptom of vaginal thrush is burning. Some women experience a burning sensation in the vagina and surrounding areas. This burning feeling can be mild or feel like your genitals are on fire. Typically, a woman who experiences itching and burning will want to seek treatment quickly to remedy the situation and alleviate symptoms.
Yet another symptom of vaginal thrush is painful intercourse. If you are in the midst of moderate to severe symptoms listed above, you probably are uninterested in intercourse all together, but for some women, painful intercourse is one of the first signs of vaginal thrush. Intercourse should be a pleasurable experience. If you notice pain, be wary of vaginal thrush.
Vaginal discharge is very common with vaginal thrush. The discharge is often odorless. Do not be alarmed by the white discharge you see. This is not uncommon with vaginal thrush. The vaginal discharge is thick and similar in consistency to cottage cheese.
Painful urination may indicate vaginal thrush, as well. When the vagina and vulvar areas are inflamed and irritated, urination may not be a pleasant experience.
A woman who has vaginal thrush may not experience all of these symptoms. If you find yourself with one or more symptoms of vaginal thrush, it is important to seek the advice of your doctor or gynecologist.
Symptoms of vaginal thrush are similar to symptoms associated with STDs such as chlamydeoa, so a doctor visit may be in order to rule out such ailments.
Do not shy away from going to the doctor when you experience symptoms of vaginal thrush. About 75% of women will experience a situation with vaginal thrush over their lifetime. The symptoms are extremely uncomfortable and need treatment.
Stress and oral medications can cause vaginal thrush. Be on the lookout for symptoms of vaginal thrush during stressful times or following the use of antibiotics or corti-steroids.
If you develop symptoms such as itching and burning in the southern regions, seek the advice of your doctor to see if you have vaginal thrush. With a proper diagnosis, treatments are available to relieve your symptoms quickly.
