What is Metabolism?
Metabolism is the part of your body which takes charge of the burning and storage of fat. Your heart beating and your lungs breathing depend upon your metabolism. Your body regulates and keeps a core temperature because of your metabolism. When you talk about metabolism, you are talking about an underappreciated and misunderstood phenomenon in our lives.
Many factors go into making your metabolism healthy. There are six basic components which help in the large picture of metabolism. Muscle is the first key when looking at your metabolism. Lean muscle helps the body burn calories, which helps in overall fat loss. More lean muscle on your body leads to greater calorie burning. The second key is afterburn. When you work out, you burn a certain amount of calories. You should know what to focus on during a workout because your body continues to burn calories after you work out. The period of time and the number of calories burnt depends upon what you do and how hard you push yourself. The third key is interval training. Interval training consists of short, high-intensity burst of activity interspersed into the workout. This helps build up lactic acid in the body so that your body must work harder to return itself to a resting state after the workout. The lactic acid helps increase the afterburn rate. The fourth key is nutrition. What you eat helps determine how you can burn calories along with how much fat will be stored on your body. The fifth key is how much sleep you get. A healthy night’s sleep is seven to nine hours. If you sleep less, you put yourself at a greater chance of weight gain because you are up for more hours and it disrupts your hormones. When you are tired, the body does not work in such an optimum manner so that you are not burning as many calories as you could be if you were well-rested. The sixth key is stress. If you keep yourself consistently stressed out, you will put yourself at a greater chance for weight gain. Certain hormones are triggered which can help kick up your appetite.
As you can see, metabolism is a big part of everyone’s life but it is not always understood. There are many factors which go into ensuring that you are healthy and that you have an optimum metabolism. It depends not on how much you work out but more on how you watch out for yourself outside of the gym. There are several different pieces to the equation that you must be conscientious of the effects of metabolism on your entire life. Metabolism has a great impact on your life if you actively work on it.
To really change your metabolism, you must make an effort within all of these different factors to ensure that you are doing the best you can do. If you only work out, you may not see any results because of stress or little sleep. You must be aware of how the body works in unison with all of these different factors.
